MONROVIA, LIBERIA – President George Weah, has renewed government commitment to ending Sexual and Gender Based Violence and rape in Liberia.
President Weah said government would adopt new approach in addressing sexual and gender based violence prevention and response mechanism.
The Liberian leader told participants Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at the start of a two-day Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Conference, that the new approach would be characterized by funding support to the fight.
The SGBV conference was organized by the Liberian government to address the concern of citizens over wide-spread rape across Liberia.
The conference being held under the theme, ‘A National Call Action’, is aimed at validating government and partners’ road map on ending SGBV by 2020-2022.
President Weah said: “The SGBV road map will be inclusive of every possible recommendation that would help fight SGVB and support policies eradication of child marriage, female genital mutilation among others”.
Also speaking, Gender Minister, Wiliameta Saydee-Tarr, said: “The road map will ensure that women, girls and boys have increased access to information and protection”.
