Historic Providence Island lights up as Liberia observes 41st World Tourism Day Saturday

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Information, is expected to join other governments in observance of the 41st World Tourism Day.

The day will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the historic Providence Island in Monrovia under the global theme “BUILDING PEACE, FOSTERING KNOWLEDGE”.

A release from the Ministry of Information said President George Weah, and other officials of government, as well as foreign dignitaries, are expected to grace the occasion, while Chief Zanzan Kawor, will serve as Keynote Speaker.

Other activities commemorating this year’s celebration will include the renovation of the historic Providence and the unveiling OF the Elizabeth ship that brought settlers to what is now called Liberia.

According to the release other activities will include the reconstruction various damaged structures, as well as the electrification of the entire Island, giving the much-needed face-lift in order to showcase its cultural, historic and touristic appearances.
