MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Ledgerhood Rennie, wants the National Legislature increase the entity’s budget.
Mr. Rennie said:” The budgetary increment will ensure the effective operations of the State Broadcaster.”
Speaking Thursday, September 17, 2020, with reporters following the submission of the System’s Budget to the National Legislature Joint Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Public Account, the LBS Director General said the additional funding will help the System’s substations across the Country.
Mr. Rennie said the money will also be used for the payment of correspondents.
The LBS Director General described public information dissemination as crucial, emphasizing the urgent need for the National Legislature to intervene.
Meanwhile, the LBS Management says its main Broadcast Tower has posed what it calls ‘death trap’ for thousands of residents living within its perimeter in Paynesville.
The tower was installed in 2003, following the relocation of the station from Central Monrovia to Paynesville.
The LBS Director General warned of imminent national tragedy for the Country, if the money for the reconditioning of the tower is not provided by Government within ninety days.
Mr. Rennie said the Management needs forty-thousand United States Dollars for the reconditioning of the main Broadcast Tower, which has outlived its usefulness.
The LBS Boss, however, expressed optimism that authorities at the Finance Ministry will swiftly intervene to abort any unforeseen situation.
