Fire burns St. Matthew High School to ashes

by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Fire has gutted the St. Matthew Lutheran High School in the New LBS Community in Paynesville, destroying several valuables worth two-million United States Dollars.

The Principal of the school, Mr. Tarnue Godo-Beyan and Education Board Chair, James Momo, said they received calls early Sunday morning, September 27, 2020, that the school building was on fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established, as police are still conducting investigations.

In an ELBC interview Sunday, they said:” The Admission Office, offices of the Principal and Vice Principals, the library and faculty lounge were affected with all school documents burnt to ashes.

Mr. Godo-Beyan and Momo are therefore appealing to Government, through the Education Ministry, law makers and humanitarian organizations to come to the aid of the school.

They said that with the level of damage done to the school, the plight of students remains in limbo, especially when the school is a WAEC Examination Center for not only St. Matthew, but also other schools in Montserrado County.
