MONROVIA,LIBERIA-The Liberia Telecommunications Network has given both Mobile Network Operators in Liberia, Lone Star Cell MTN and Orange-Liberia twelve hours to rescind the illegal price  increase in the cost of service for voice calls and data bundles or face appropriate action.

In a statement Thursday, October 8, 2020, the LTA described the arbitrary increase in the cost of service, for voice calls and data   bundles, as a false pretense of complying with the surcharge order.

The LTA, in the statement, said it regards the act as illegal price fixing, collusion and antitrust conspiracy.

The LTA Statement disclosed that under relevant provisions of the Liberia Telecommunications Act 2007, no “Term Services” can be increased without approval by the Telecommunications Authorities

The Telecommunications regulator said the New Term of Services, which is being implemented by the Mobile Operators now, is far an excess of what is required for implementation of any order and designed for profiteering and political purposes.

Recently Orange-Liberia communicated with its subscribers that beginning October 5, 2020, an additional cost or surcharge in the amount of 0.008 USD for each minute of off net voice and USD 0.00065 for each megabit data.

The Company said it was in compliance with LTA Order-0016-02-25 issued on 25 February 19, 2019.
