Living Water Int’l celebrates 30 years, Liberia’s program recounts activities

GANTA, NIMBA COUNTY- As part of its 30th celebration to mark the humanitarian services being provided in the area of safe drinking, Living Water International, Liberia held a colorful program to commemorate the entity’s existence.

The program brought together representations from four counties including inhabitants, especially from Ganta and all parts of Nimba County; where the Christian charity is implementing water, sanitation, and hygiene programs.

Living Water International globally is operating in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, providing safe drinking water to the neediest and preaching the words of God.

The Country Director of Living Water International, Austin Nyaplue, recounting his organization’s activities in Liberia, said: “The charity commenced its WASH services in Montserrado County, later in Margibi, Grand Gedeh, Grand Cape Mount Counties, and presently in Nimba County”.

Mr. Nyaplue informed the celebrants of the 30th celebration that the charity has been providing safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services through the Community-Led Total Sanitation program.

He said: “In 2004, shortly after the end of the 14 years of war in Liberia, Living Water staff came to Liberia, to assess the water situation, when the visit revealed a great need and opportunity to help communities access safe drinking water in the war-ravaged country”.

Nyaplue observed that since then, the charity has grown into full water access, sanitation, and hygiene program, addressing the active WASH needs of Liberians.

Living Water International has so far implemented WASH programs in Montserrado, Cape Mount, Margibi, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, and Maryland Counties, working directly with local county authorities in the construction of new wells, repairing broken pumps, and hygiene sanitation education using the Community-led Total Sanitation.

The celebration was also marked by funding rising to encouraged residents of Nimba; join the charity to raise about US$5,000 Dollars for the construction of hand pumps.

The Country Director has also disclosed that Living Water is working in 30 communities in Nimba County, providing safe drinking water to the inhabitants.

Delivering the keynote address, the Pastor of the Bethel Central Church in Ganta, Nimba, Rev John Baryougar, encouraged Liberians to always get involved in initiatives for others to remember them for always.

Rev. Baryougar praised Living Water International Liberia for providing safe drinking water to Liberians as a means of getting rid of water-borne diseases and improving their lives. He called for support for the charity initiative.

Also speaking, Nimba County Superintendent, Nelson Korkor, commended Living Water for selecting Nimba to provide safe drinking.

Superintendent Korkor assured the charity that the county authority remains cooperative, in ensuring that the work of the organization remains successful in the county.
