GANTA, NIMBA COUNTY-The Joint Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Legislature has begun a five-day retreat in Ganta, Nimba County, aimed at enhancing the capacity of its members.
According to a release issued Thursday, October 22, 2020, the retreat is intended to focus on members of the PAC procedures and to examine the Statement of Accounts of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for public hearing purposes.
Speaking at the start of the ceremony, Bong County Superintendent and Chairman of the Joint PAC, Edward Karfiah, said:” The retreat will spotlight on Government’s spending, value for cash, and an effective budget support from SOEs towards the National Budget.”
He revealed that the PAC uncovered the random approach of SOEs towards the National Budget, as the major cause for the underperformance of programs and projects under Government’s social development.
Representative Karfiah also said issues discussed at the retreat will spotlight the Country’s development funds, audit report as conducted by the General Auditing Commission (GAC).
Participating institutions making presentations include the Liberian Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Financial Intelligent Unit (FIU), Governance Commission, Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Public Procurement and Concession Commission (PPCC) and the General Auditing Commission (GAC).
A road map will be developed at the end of the retreat on 24th October for proper coordination.
