MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has, by proclamation, declared today Tuesday, December 1, as World Aids Day and is to be observed throughout the Country as a working holiday.
The Day is in recognition of the immense contribution of the United Nations to combat HIV and Aids around the world.
This year’s World Aids Day is celebrated under the global theme: “Global Solidarity, Share Responsibility”, and the National Theme is: “Get Involved, End Aids together in Liberia”.
The Proclamation quotes President Weah as calling on Ministries, Agencies of Government, local and international organizations and the public to join the National Aids Commission of Liberia to organize and execute appropriate programs.
It also said Liberia has generalized HIV pandemic with reproductive age population, showing HIV prevalence of 2.1 percent though UNAIDS 2020 estimates put it as 1.5 percent with an estimated adult HIV population of 47,000.
