United Nations Resident Coordinator, Dr. Kingsley Opoku-Amaning and ECOWAS Special Representative, Amb. Babatunde Ajisomo.

 

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberian Government has honored two Diplomats following the end of their respective services in the country.

They are ECOWAS Special Representative, Ambassador Babatunde Ajisomo, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Dr. Kingsley Opoku-Amaning.

President George Weah, on the behalf of the Liberian Government, honored Ambassador Ajisomo and Dr. Amaning with the order of Distinction at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, December 21, 2020.

President Weah praised the outgoing ECOWAS Ambassador for his outstanding role in sustaining the peace of the country.

The Liberian leader also said the outgoing UN Resident Coordinator ensured the United Nations’ adequate support to all sectors of the country.

Ambassador Babatunde Ajisomo was appointed ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia in 2003, while Dr. Kinsley Amaning became UN Resident Coordinator in Liberia in 2019.

Meanwhile, the two honorees, Ambassador Babatunde Ajisomo and Dr. Kinsley Amaning thanked the Government and the people of Liberia for their cooperation during their years of service to the country.

Responding earlier, Ambassador Ajisomo expressed delight over ECOWAS’ pivotal role in maintaining the country’s peace during his 13 years of service.

The ECOWAS Envoy said: “The achievements and great potentials of Liberia are motivations for citizens to overcome present-day challenges”. He, however, wants Liberians to use the outcomes of the 2020 December 8, Senatorial Elections to reconcile their differences and unite the country.

In remarks, the outgoing United Nations Resident Coordinator, Dr. Kinsley Amaning, said the United Nations and the Government have succeeded in cementing the partnership.

Dr. Amaning said: “The UN remains committed to ongoing progress and future prosperity of the country despite the rotation of its Coordinators and Heads of Mission”.
