MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has reiterated its request for the printing of new sets of Liberian dollar banknotes.
CBL Executive Governor, Aloysius Tarlue, said:” The Bank is also seeking legislative authorization to use 21.7 million to print 27.5 billion in three year’s period.”
According to him, the CBL will collaborate with partners to achieve a cashless economy, which could further address mutilation of the banknotes in circulation.
He recounted the challenges currently facing the Liberia economy referencing 25.3 billion dollars in circulation, 89.4 percent which is outside of the banking sector as of December 2020.
The CBL Executive Director made the assertion on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, during his appearance before the House of Representatives.
