Nimba County seeks vengeance against Grand Bassa County in County Meet Kickball Final

by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Nimba County will engaged Grand Bassa County in this year’s National County Sports Meet Kickball Final, as the Nimbaians seek revenge against the side that last defeated them in the final in 2017/2018.

Nimba County, who had failed to put up a serious challenge for the title since that time, cruised through to the grand final on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, defeating champions Margibi County in penalties.

Their win over Margibi County also ended the “Margibi vs Grand Bassa” fixture in the final for the past three editions.

The final also put some of the finest kickball stars in the Country, as well as two of the best coaches against each other.

It will not only be the attacking and defending contest that will be at display, but the pitching contest between two of the finalists kickball pitchers the Country has, Noko Sleweon of Grand Bassa County and Alane Koffa of Nimba County.

The two who played for rival clubs in the Liberia Kickball Federation League  are serious rivals in the pitching box in the National Kickball Championship, and will keep that rivalry alive when they face-off in yet another cake shearing final.

Nimba County is into their 7th final, while Grand Bassa through to their 4th straight final.

Nimba County had won the kickball title on three of the six occasions they have reached the final, while Grand Bassa has won it twice.

Grand Bassa won Nimba 2-1 in the 2017/18 final to lift their first title and went on to defend the title the following year against Margibi County before falling in the final last year to Margibi County.

That 2017/18 defeat remains fresh on the minds of the people of Nimba County and Coach Ezekiel Doekpa, who took a sabbatical following that defeat and made a return to the competition this year.

Coach Doekpa said his mission is to avenge that lost in 2017/18 to show Nimba County supremacy in the competition.

The winner will not only be lifting the big trophy, but one million Liberian dollars as cash prize, as well as showing the supremacy between the two counties who are rivals in the National County Sports Meet.

With both counties football teams out of the football fray, winning the kickball title will be a serious consolation, as such the battle will be a serious cracker.
