Police Inspector General Sudue’s attribution has tendency to put public against the courts – Chief Justice Korkpor

by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA- Chief Justice Francis Korkpor says, recent statement attributed to Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue has the tendency to put the public against the courts.

The Police Chief recently expressed concerns about the courts releasing criminal suspects turned over for prosecution.

Justice Korkpor said the Police Director should have made direct reference to the particular Judge who is alleged to have released a hardened criminal.

The Chief Justice said the Judiciary is being watched by International and local human rights groups and as such will not engage in any act that compromises the law.

He however said keeping people in jail without trial is a violation of their rights, noting that under the laws, Public Defenders are authorized to file motions, for the release of people who are in detention beyond statutory period.
