MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Football Association (LFA) will shortly get a headquarter of its own, as grounding breaking ceremony has taken place for the construction of the first LFA Headquarters.
The more than one-million U.S. Dollar Football Headquarters will be constructed in the Swakamore Community along the SKD Boulevard, with FIFA providing the funding.
Fifa is providing 1.4 million USD, as part of its forward 2.0 project support to Liberia, while the LFA in 2017 purchased the land space.
Speaking Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at the groundbreaking ceremony, LFA President, Mustapha Raji, commended Fifa for the huge support given Liberia in recent time.
Mr. Raji said:” While the International Parent body of Football is providing support to the Local FA, the LFA should get more funding from the Liberian government.”
Mr. Raji further appealed to FIFA for more support, saying Liberia’s case is critical than that of other National Associations.
The LFA Boss thanked the Executive Committees of the Football House for approving the project, which will be the first of its kind since the establishment of the LFA in 1936.
Also speaking, FIFA Regional Development Officer for West African, El Hadji Diop, said:” The International Parent body of Football is pleased with Liberia’s efforts to improve football in the Country.”
He assured Liberia Football Association of FIFA’s commitment to continue the support to develop Liberia’s football infrastructure.
He said Fifa is interested in the positives coming out of the many projects around the world.
“Fifa loves to work with Football Associations that are dynamic,” said Diop, as he urged Liberian football stakeholders to work together.
At the same time, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Andy Quamie, said:” Government was impressed with the level of work done by Mustapha Raji and team at the LFA, to change the face of football in Liberia.”
The seasoned Liberian Football Executive said the Raji Administration has done a lot just under two years,, as such it needed to be recognized.
The Headquarters project will end the struggle the LFA had been going through in finding a place to sit to do its work.
The LFA, since the 1936, has been renting at many buildings in Monrovia.
The project is being implemented by CESAF-Liberia Limited.
The Fifa Forward 2.0 Headquarters. Project is happening at the time FIFA had completed the laying of turf at three football grounds in Liberia.
Currently, the Antoinette Tubman Stadium hosts the offices of the Liberia Football Association.
