MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Assistant Justice Minister for Corrections and Rehabilitation is calling for the relocation of the Monrovia Central Prison.
Assistant Minister Eddie Trawally said:” The facility is currently overwhelmed with almost two-thousand inmates, far beyond its original capacity of three-hundred-seventy-five.”
Minister said the current location of the Prison in a residential area also poses a threat to both the facility and residents of the community.
He was speaking in an ELBC interview Tuesday, April 27, 2021, a day after huge consignment of narcotic drugs was reportedly discovered at the Monrovia Central Prison.
Minister Trawally said the Bureau of Correction has since heightened security at the Central Prison, and declared zero tolerance on drugs.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Justice Minister has revealed that the Bureau of Corrections has lost valuable prison records, following the burning of the Harper prison in Maryland County.
