PHIL calls for policies and programs to promote good menstrual hygiene for girls

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Executive Director of the Public Health Institute of Liberia (PHIL), is calling for policies and programs that will promote good menstrual hygiene for girls at schools across the country.

Madam Joyce Kliipoe said such policies should ensure that school Administrations provide friendly menstrual hygiene facilities and clean water for females.

Speaking Thursday in an ELBC interview, Madam Kliipoe said female students should not be made to stay away from school during their menstrual circle due to the lack of sanitary materials at schools.

She added that there should be easily assessable sanitary pads and products for females at various schools across the country.

For his part, Mr. Eugene Caine, a Research Specialist at the National WASH Commission said menstrual hygiene education is critical for the wellbeing of women and girls in Liberia.

He also called for the establishment on infrastructures at public buildings that will promote good hygiene practice for women and girls.
