MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The collection of funds for Covid-19 testing by the Ministry of Health has come under serious scrutiny at the House of Representatives.

The august body has reinstructed its joint Committee on Health and Public Accounts and Expenditure to further investigate the Ministry on the matter.

According to our reporter, the plenary decision Thursday, April 29, 2021, followed a motion for reconsideration filed by Nimba County District 5 Representative, Samuel Kogar.

Representative Kogar sought a further investigation by the joint committee referencing the Public Financial Management Law which authorizes only the Ministry of Finance to collect all government funding.

Our reporter said the House of Representatives had initially voted for the reintroduction of the drug revolving fund at health facilities across the country based on the Joint Committee report.

The committee was recently mandated by plenary to probe the Ministry of Health money collection, its usage among others based on communications from Representatives Dixon Seboe, Yekeh Kolubah, Thomas Goshua, and Mike Jury.
