MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has, on behalf Of the Liberian Government, conveyed deepest sympathy to the Nigerian Government for the death of its Chief of Army Staff.
Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru and ten other officers were killed in a plane crash on Friday May 21, 2021.
The plane carrying the officers, including the flight crew, was trying to land in bad weather in the north-western State of Kaduna.
According to an Executive Mansion release, President Weah hailed the bravery and personal sacrifice of the victims for helping to tackle the Country’s security challenges in the region.
The Liberian Leader cited General Attahiru’s peacekeeping duties with the West African peacekeeping force, ECOMOG, saying his death is also a loss to Liberia.
As a career officer, General Attahiru rose through the ranks of the force, occupying various leadership positions, including Company Commander of Nibatt-19 in Liberia.
President Weah also sent his condolences to the families of the officers, urging them to take solace in the Lord, during this difficult time.
