ACCRA, GHANA-ECOWAS Heads of State and Government have suspended Mali from all ECOWAS Institutions.
The decision was taken Sunday, May 30, 2021, at an ECOWAS Emergency meeting convened in the Ghanaian Capital, Accra.
According to the ECOWAS leaders, the suspension from all ECOWAS institutions will remain enforced, until Mali returns to democratic rule.
Last week, the West African nation suffered another coup, after the coup leader, then Vice President of the Transitional Government, Assimi Goita, arrested and detained the President, Bah Ndaw, and Prime Minister, Moctar Ouane.
Also in the joint communique at Sunday’s emergency meeting, the Heads of State are demanding the immediate release of the former President and Prime Minister who are kept under house arrest.
They called for new inclusive government to be formed, in order to proceed with the transitional program and a civilian Prime Minister to be nominated immediately.
