MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Controversial goal scoring contest marred the climax of the LFA Orange National First Division League Championship campaign Sunday.

The goal scoring contest was between the two players who were contesting for the season’s golden shoes prize.

Watanga FC’s Augustine Otu and LPRC Oilers’ Terry Sackor registered 14 goals between them in their respective league fixtures on Sunday, May 30, 2021, as they battle to end the season as highest league scorer.

Otu scored seven goals as Watanga FC ended their campaign with a 10-6 victory over already relegated Small Town FC, at the SKD Practice ground.

Terry Sackor bagged in seven goals as well to help LPRC Oilers send off another already relegated side, Nimba FC with a 9-0 victory.

The weekend’s results saw Oilers lifting the Orange League Season title for the second year running.

Just before the last day fixtures, Augustine Otu led the goal scoring chat with two goals ahead of Terry Sackor.

Knowing that the winner of the golden shoes will chop over two-hundred- fifty- thousand Liberian Dollars in prize money, the focus was set on who finishes the season with the most goals in the top division.

So, the two lead goal-scorers were at the top of their games with Terry Sackor netting in seven goals to overtake Otu. Sackor 7 goals saw him moved on 20 goals that was 5 ahead of Out, who had led the goal scoring chat in the second half of the season.

With news of Terry Sackor’s 7 goals in Nimba County for an Oilers 9-0 victory, Augustine Otu produced what he considers one of his best moments of the season, as he netted in four times in the last 12 minutes to retake the top goal scorer position with 22 goals.

The score-lines in the two fixtures draw the attention of many football fans, with many describing the results as strange.

Many of them called on the LFA authorities to launch an investigation into the two matches as there were claims of match fixing.

Though Oilers needed a win to reclaim their title ahead of LISCR FC, goals were not their concern as they were ahead of their nearest challengers with a point.

The Liberia Football Association has, meanwhile, instituted an investigation into the two matches following public out cried of match fixing.

The LFA in a statement says it is concerned not only about the results but the manner and form in which Terry Sackor and Augustine Otu, scored seven goals respectively.

The grievance and disciplinary committee is looking into the allegation in keeping with the rules governing the Orange national league (2020/2021 season).
