Pope Francis Appoints Rev. Fr. Charles Boyce as Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia

Monrovia, Liberia – Pope Francis has appointed Reverend Father Charles Boyce as the Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia.

Prior to his appointment, Father Boyce was the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Monrovia.

It comes after the Vatican accepted the resignation of Arch Bishop Lewis Jerome Zeigler.

The announcement was contained in a communication issued Monday by the Vatican Embassy near Monrovia.

The Most Reverend Lewis Jerome Zeigler has been serving as Arch Bishop of Monrovia since 2011 after previously serving as Bishop of the Gbarnga Diocese.

The Vatican said Bishop Zeigler’s resignation is in conformity with Canon 401- c – 1 of the Code of Canon Law after reaching the age limit of seventy-five years.

According to reports, Arch Bishop Lewis Zeigler, now 78 years old, sent in his letter of resignation to the Vatican in 2018 after reaching the retirement age.
