LIBERIA – French Foreign Minister, Jean – Yves Le Drian is expected on a two-day state visit to Liberia, today and hold talks with President George Weah.

The visit of Minister Le Drian will focus on reinforcing bilateral relations through enhanced corporation in the areas of security, economy and development.

In January, Minister Le Drian and President Weah held talks on the margins of the inaugural ceremony of Ghanaian President Nana Dankwah Akufo-Addo in Accra.

At that time, the French Foreign Minister thanked the Liberian government for its continuous efforts aimed at “consolidating the democratic gains the country has made under the Weah-led administration”.

During his stay in Liberia, there will also be the laying of a cornerstone at the Alliance Francis, signifying Liberia’s desire to harness closer ties with the Francophone world.

A MICAT release issued Wednesday, June 9, 2021, said Mr. Le Drian is the first high profile French Government official to visit Liberia since the civil war.

The release said his visit further demonstrates the renewed commitment by the government of France to cement ties with the Administration of President Weah.
