Shalom conducts Consultative Meeting on Nutrition in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County

GRAND BASSA COUNTY-SHALOM, a local a group with support under Irish Aid Nutrition Project, has conducted a one-day Consultative Meeting with CSOS and relevant government ministries and agencies in Grand Bassa County on nutrition.

The one-day   meeting which  brought together authorities of Government Ministries, including  Agriculture, Health , Gender Children and Social Protection Ministries, the commissioner  as well as civil society grouping, with focus on  nutrition.

The overall objectives of the meeting were provided by Shalom WASH Officer, Lusu Gibson, who said:” The gathering was intended    to review   a research conducted by a consultant hired by Irish Aid   to establish the   nutrition status in Liberia.

According  to her, the participants were able to  focus  on  finding conduct from   the research  that could be used  in   future intervention across  the country, as a means  of   reducing  malnutrition  .

She disclosed   that the nutritional Research that was conducted by the consultant highlighted the increased of stunting due to several factors, including inaccessibility   of roads, lack of access to money,   among others.

She disclosed that the research was conducted in three    regions: Grand Cape Mount as region one, Grand Bassa and rural Montserrado as region two while Rivercess and Sino Counties are region three.

Also speaking, Water Aid Advocacy and Communication Zayzay Kolubah, extoled the participants for demonstrating their interest in addressing the nutritional problem with in the country, that is affecting more of children.

Mr. Kolubah said:” With the level of commitment shown by the participants during   the meeting, it is clear that they are willing to take the lead in finding solution to reduce stunting in their county.”

The Communication and advocacy further said that the organization is committed in partnering with Shalom in working with them, by providing the needy support to make their quest of reducing stunting a reality.

He  further said: “In order for  the county  to achieve such objective  in reducing stunting, it will depend on  them  as county civil society  and  the relevant government ministries representatives  to work”

For her part, the Executive Director of FAWE’s Buchanan Mothers Club and SUN Civil Society Grand Bassa County Representative, Rebecca Mehdeh, expressed gratitude to WaterAid   and partners for reawaking   their desire to help improve nutritional status of the county.

She urged Water Aid and Shalom to always engage   them as a means of motivating both the CSOs and the respective Government Ministries representatives on their plan on nutrition.

Also speaking  was  the Commissioner of  Harlandsville Township,  Benjamin Greaves, who used  the event  to appreciate  the two organizations  for initiating  the interactive assembly   with  the objective  of acquiring knowledge on  those key components  of reducing stunting .

He further highlighted the issue of pollution with in the various communities in his township, due to poor sanitation by the community inhabitants.
