MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has by proclamation declared Monday, July 26, as National Independence Day to be observed throughout the Republic of Liberia as a National Holiday.
The proclamation calls on all citizens and foreign residents within the borders of Liberia to observe same.
The proclamation is in consonance with the Patriotic and Cultural Observance Law, Title 26 of the Liberian Code of Laws of 1956, which set aside July 26 of each year to be observed as a public holiday to be known as “National Independence Day”.
According to a Foreign Ministry release issued on Friday, July 23, 2021, all Government offices and business houses are to be closed during the observance of the day, from 6am to 6pm.
According to the proclamation, due to the COVID-19 situation, the usual official festive celebration of the day will not be held, and the theme for this year’s Independence Day is: “ Together We Are Stronger”: Fighting COVID-19 and Achieving Development, Peace, Human Rights, Justice, Health and Prosperity for All”.
