University of Liberia President wants Gov. invest seriously in Agriculture

by Francis Pelenah Jr,

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The President of the University of Liberia, Rev. Dr. Julius Sarwolo Nelson, is calling on the Liberian Government to invest heavily in agriculture.

Dr. Nelson wants the government to prioritize agriculture, because it holds the greatest potential to alleviating poverty and inequality.

Delivering his Independence Day Oration on July 26, 2021, Dr. Nelson said:” It is about time the government empowers citizens to grow what they eat and ensure food security.”

The UL President recommended that investments in the agriculture sector should be concentrated in the counties of Bong, Nimba and Lofa, as the bread baskets of Liberia.

He said such investment will save millions of dollars being spent annually on the importation of the Country’s staple food, and also create an economic transformation with more jobs and better income for ordinary citizens.
