Experts examine Marburg virus source in Guinea

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Health Experts in Guinea are investigating the source of the Marburg virus that has killed so far one person in Guinea.

Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Francis Karteh said:” Liberia’s health experts and international partners are working along with their Guinean counterparts to enhance the investigation.”

Dr. Karteh said the essence of the investigation is to put into place a strong surveillance system to contain the virus.

He said the virus was first discovered in the German city of  Marburg in 1960, and there is concern about how it entered into Guinea.

Dr. Karteh disclosed that Liberia’s Health Authorities are strengthening surveillance at the border to avoid any potential spillover of the new virus.

In another development, the Chief Medical Officer has expressed satisfaction over the huge turnout of people in Montserrado County to take the Johnson and Johnson virus.
