Learning Squared, Liberia empowers single mothers with small loan in Margibi County

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A Liberian women and girls’ education and empowerment organization, Learning Squared, Liberia has provided a second phase small loan to more than 14 single mothers of  Mannor Town, and Palm Bush Community, near Katkata, Margibi County.

Learning Squared, Liberia Country Manager, Alvin Freeman, said the small loan, is benefiting about 60 needy women and is serving as a revolving money to empower  the mothers pay their children school fees from where the organization will end  for those benefiting the group’s scholarship.

Mannor Town, in Kolona, Margibi County, is a locally impoverished village with a population of about 5,000, most of whom are women and children.

About 500 girls from eight counties including Mannor Town and Palm Bush Community in Margibi County, are direct beneficiaries of Learning Squared, Liberia’s education program dubbed “the Rural Girls Education Project”.

Mr. Freeman spoke Friday, September 10, 2021,  during the disbursement of the second-phase of the small loan to the women of Mannor Town, and Palm Bush Community.

The micro-finance small loan as a pilot project, initially provided LD$6,000. to LD$8,500. to individual women beneficiaries. the total disbursement of LD$130,000. is being made so far.

Mr. Freeman further said modality is being concluded to extend the Social Micro-Finance Program in Klay, Bomi County, where other single mothers will also benefit.
