MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Public Works Ministry has threatened to go after Liberian contractors defaulting on major projects, after collecting payments from the government.

Acting Public Works Minister Ruth Cooker-Collins said:” Many Liberian contractors are not living up to the terms of their contractual agreements with the government.”

Minister Collins said Future Builders has received payments to do two bridges more than a year ago, but is yet to begin the projects.

She told the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing Thursday, October 14, 2021, that the Public Works Ministry has decided to engage the Justice Ministry, to pursue Liberian contractors who are defaulting on the execution of government’s development projects.

Minister Ruth Cooker-Collins said while the Liberian Government is concerned about empowering Liberian contractors, the Public Works Ministry will not compromise the interest of the country.
