President Weah hails Japan for massive support to government’s Pro-poor Agenda

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has hailed Liberia- Japan bilateral relationship as beneficiary to Government’s Pro-Poor Agenda.

President Weah said:” My 2019 visit to Japan for the TICAD Conference was geared towards enhancing cooperation for the benefit of economic and social development programs.”

The Liberian Leader was speaking Monday, October 18, 2021, when he formally received, on behalf of the Liberian Government, over four-hundred Outboard Yamaha engines at the Mesurado Pier on the Bushrod Island.

President Weah said:” The motorized engines, to be operated by fishermen, will have a significant impact on the revenue generating capacity of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority.”

The Liberian Leader thanked Japan for donating the Outboard Yamaha engines and urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the machines.

He paid tribute to outgoing Japanese Ambassador, Tsumotu Himeno, for diligently executing various development programs undertaken by Japan.

 Meanwhile, the Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) says the procurement of five-hundred outboard Yamaha engines is a great lift from the Government and people of Japan.

Madam Emma Glasco said:” The donation of the motorized engines by Japan is a clear manifestation of President George Weah’s close ties with Japan and support to the fishery sector.”

The NaFAA boss also said a 3.6 million dollars agreement for more outboard engines is expected to be signed between NaFAA and the Japanese Government.

According to her, the agreement will equip fish landing clusters and add value to fish monger for more economic benefits.

Madam Emma Glasco assured that a fish monitoring center being built will be one of the best in the region.
