GRAND CAPE MOUNT COUNTY, LIBERIA-Residents of Porkpa and Tewor District, in Grand Cape Mount County, have complained of the poor state of public schools in the area.
ELBC Correspondent named the schools as Tewor Fahnbulleh Public School, Sewu, Tahn, Lavuma and Vaikenwa Public Schools.
Our Correspondent said besides the bad condition, the school also lacks basic materials to effectively operate.
According to our Correspondent, the situation serves as an impediment to the opening of schools on November 1, 2021, as mandated by the Ministry of Education.
At the same time, parents are demanding explanation for an extra fee of one-thousand Liberian Dollars being charged for insurance at public schools in the county.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Ansu Sonii has attributed the poor learning condition to resource challenges being faced by the Government of Liberia, but said the Ministry will ensure the situation is addressed.
Minister Sonii has also frowned at school authorities compelling parents to pay for insurance for their kids, saying it should be a matter of choice.
