Liberia provides Medical Response Team to assist in Sierra Leone Explosion Crisis

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A team of nine medical personnel, including one Physician and a surgeon, leaves the Country this Friday for Sierra Leone to assist in the medical response to the November explosion in Freetown.

The team’s departure followed a request from the Mano River Union (MRU) for Liberia to provide emergency assistance to its sisterly Republic.

It can be recalled that the People of Sierra Leone witnessed an explosion of a fuel tanker in the capital, Free Town, which claimed about one-hundred lives, with another one-hundred persons with varied degrees of burns in nearly all the major hospitals.

The MRU considers the explosion as a national disaster and sympathizes with the President, Government, People and families who are severely affected by the devastating incident.

The Health Ministry’s statement also indicates that the lone surgeon on the team was seconded to the ministry by Partner in Health.

Liberia’s gesture to provide emergency assistance, including medicals supplies worth Fifty-thousand United States Dollars to the People of Sierra Leone is through the instrumentality of President George Weah.
