GBARNGA, BONG COUNTY-About $100,000.00 United States Dollars is being raised to procure drugs and other materials for the C.B. Dumbar Maternity Center in Gbarnga, Bong County.

The Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, spearheaded the fund raising rally over the weekend at the Gbarnga Administrative Building.

Mr. McGill also promised, on behalf of President George Weah, a donation of an ambulance following an appeal by the administration of the hospital.

Speaking at the launch, he said:” The money being raised, under the Drug Revolving Fund, will also be used to expand the hospital.”

Minister McGill stressed that there is a need for C.B.Dunbar and other Government run hospitals and health facilities to be given key priority for an effective health delivery system in the Country.

He challenged the Bong County Legislative Caucus to join effort to increase the budget of C.B. Dunbar Hospital, as the biggest maternity health center in the Country.

Meanwhile, the Medical Director at the C.B.Dunbar Hospital, Dr. Cynthia Blapooh, said the Drug Resolving Fund is the surest way of addressing challenges faced by the hospital.

Dr. Blapooh said:” The initial target to be raised, through the fund, is $75,000.00 US Dollars, to buy enough medication and compensate volunteered hospital staff.”

She also appealed for budgetary increment for the hospital, adding that the current budget is too little to cater to the hospital’s growing operational cost.

According to her, the hospital is no longer restricted to maternity care, but other medical services, due to the growing medical concerns from nearby counties.

Also speaking, Bong County Senator Prince Moye and Jorquelleh District Three Representative, Marvin Cole, promised to take the lead in advocating for budgetary increment for the hospital.
