Senate requests ArcelorMittal’s Compliance Report from appropriate Gov’t Bodies…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Senate Joint Committee on Mines, Energy, Concessions and Judiciary, has instructed relevant Government entities to present compliance report on ArcelorMittal, since its operations in Liberia.

The entities include the National Investment Commission, the Ministries of Mines and Energy, Finance and Development Planning, and Justice.

The Committee also requested an audit report from the entities to allow the Senate make an informed decision on ratification of the new agreement.

The joint committee reached the decision following public hearing on Arcelor Mittal’s Eight-Hundred- Million US Dollar agreement, Monday, December 6, 2021, currently before the Legislature.

The hearing was meant for relevant government institutions to explain reasons why the Liberian Senate should ratify the concession deal, for the next twenty-five years.
