MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia, through the National Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce, held an emergency meeting on the situation of Liberian women in Dubai and Oman.
The primary objective of the meeting is to consolidate information about the alleged trafficking of Liberians, mainly women, to the two countries.
The Sunday, December 12, 2021, meeting resolved that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will communicate with the Government of Oman and to the Liberian Mission at the United Nations about the situation.
The meeting also resolved that the movement of Liberians to Oman and Dubai will, henceforth, be strait lined by the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the Liberia National Police (LNP).
The Chairman of the Taskforce, Labor Minister Charles Gibson, said:” The Liberian Government is embarking on a program to ensure that the women are brought back home, and the alleged perpetrators prosecuted.”
He said the Taskforce is engaging the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the repatriation.
