MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the National Traditional Council (NTC), has issued a General Circular on the activities of Poro and Sande Societies in Liberia.
The Circular will regulate and guide against traditional practices and rituals that violate the constitution and the fundamental rights of others.
The Circular, among other things, called on Poro and Sande Zoes, as well as local government activities, to not allow the setting-up of road blocks, under the guise of tradition.
The regulation also warned non-initiated members of the two traditional societies to stay clear of the Poro and Sande Shrines.
It also banned the establishment of Poro and Sande groves within two city limits.
The General Circular number 15 comes in the wake of recent road blocks by Poro Masters in Lofa County, demanding the certification of Lofa County Senator-elect, Brownie Samukai.
