ECOWAS imposes new sanction on Mali

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah and his counterparts in the ECOWAS Region have imposed new sanction on Mali.

The sanctions include economic, financial and the withdrawal of all ECOWAS Ambassadors from the Country.

Speaking to ELBC on Monday, January, 10, 2022, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie said the decision was reached at the recent Extra-ordinary Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in Accra, Ghana.

Minister Rennie said:” The leaders termed   as unacceptable limited progress made by the National Transitional Council to meet the February 22 transitional deadline.”

According to him, all Malian assets in and out of the Country, especially commercial banks, have also been ordered freeze until otherwise ordered.

Regarding Guinea, Minister Rennie said the leaders instructed a mission to Conakry to discuss the transition process with the Guinean Authorities.
