MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has stressed the urgent need to commence the outsourcing of electricity distribution network, across the Country.
The LERC Board of Commission Chairman, Dr. Lawrence Sekajipo, said:” This is based on the inability of the operators to effectively manage the distribution network.”
He added that private sector investment in the electricity sector will bring efficiency, stability and reliability in the delivery of electricity.
Dr. Sekajipo said doing so would also increase operator’s revenue and reduce risk, while providing additional employment in the private sector.
He further disclosed that a low water level at the Mount Coffee Power Plant and insufficient capacity of the thermal plant of the LEC are key reasons why demand for electricity is higher than its supply.
The LERC Boss spoke on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press conference in Monrovia.
