MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Prosecuting lawyers on Monday prevented former Vice President Joseph Boakai from taking the witness stand, to testify in the ongoing trial of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader Alexander Cummings.
Liberia’s Solicitor General Syrenius Cephus prevented Ambassador Boakai on grounds that they wanted the original copies of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) framework document from the National Elections Commission (NEC).
Cllr. Cephus’ argument was through a request to the court seeking to subpoena NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown-Lansanah to produce the original CPP framework document.
In response, Lead Defense Lawyer Cllr. Abraham Sillah argued that the original documents were produced, identified, confirmed and marked by the court.
Cllr. Sillah said:” The action by the Prosecution is a calculated attempt to delay the legal proceedings.”
Following the lawyers’ claims and counterclaims, Judge Jomah Jallah granted prosecuting lawyers to subpoena NEC Chairperson, to produce the original document on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
