MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf says the drive behind the Situation Room is to prevent any form of violence related to election or COVID-19.
Minister Sirleaf emphasized that the initiative is a collaboration of key actors, including the Peace-Building Office, State and non-state institutions, Office of the National Peace Ambassador, the National Security Council Secretariat, and the National Elections Commission among others.
Speaking Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the official re-launch of the COVID-19 Election Monitoring and Violence Prevention Situation Room, he said:” The initiative complements the effort of Government to address conflict and transformation, using both the formal and informal approaches.”
Minister Sirleaf acknowledged the immense role played by the Situation Room during the 2020 Special Senatorial Elections, with emphasis on data collection, and information to provide authentic reports.
