MONROVIA, LIBERIA-USAID Mission Director has called for an increase in budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Education.
His call comes on the background of sustaining a five –year USAID sponsored reading activity program, which aims at enhancing the reading ability of children in grades one and two.
Speaking to ELBC Monday, August 8, 2022, Jim Wright said:” The Ministry does not have the full budget it needs to carry out all of its activities, and USAID wants the national budget to reflect the priorities of education with more funding to the Ministry, and the National Legislature should make that happen.”
He said USAID has been working with Government to increase its revenue, so that additional resources are made available.
The program which is being piloted in about forty public schools is expected to end in September of this year.
