MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A group of young people have embarked on the journey of awareness to educate parents and guidance, and advocate against marriage of underage girls.
In Liberia, it is estimated that about thirty-six percent of girls are married before age 18, many of whom are from the poorest households.
Girls Not Brides, an initiative of Brighter Initiatives for Revitalization and Development Liberia (BIRD), is fostering the awareness to eradicate early child marriage.
BIRD Office Administrator, Emmanuel Quiqui, said:” The organization is committed to taking the advocacy across Liberia, to ensure the right education against child marriage.”
According to him, the group will also provide support for survival of child marriage to reintegrate them and avoid stigmatization against them.
