MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Transport is to shortly conduct motorcycle and tricycle registration exercise in and around Monrovia.
The Ministry said the process will be done in collaboration with the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).
The Director for Motorcycle and Tricycle at the Transport Ministry, Lorenzo Beyan, said:” The registration exercise will begin on September 5, 2022, simultaneously at various locations.”
Mr. Beyan said the registration and inspection will be carried out in six locations, including Gardnerville, Ministerial Complex and the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
Also speaking, Transport Ministry of Transport Director of Press and Public Affairs, Lemuel Klemee, said:” The exercise is intended to ensure all motorcycles and tricycles, private or public, are in compliance with the law.”
Mr. Klemee said the Ministry is closely working with the National Federation of Motorcycle and Tricycle Association of Liberia, to create a database of all motorcycle riders in Liberia.
Meanwhile, the newly elected President of the Motorcycle and Tricycle Association of Liberia has welcomed the upcoming registration exercise.
Mr. Samuel Deapah said:” The exercise will greatly help the Federation with documentation of its members across the Country. The Federation has been infiltrated by criminals and unscrupulous individuals who use motor bikes and tricycles to commit crimes.”
The National Federation Boss called on his members to take advantage of the process, to avoid coming in conflict with the law.
In an ELBC interview on Thursday, September 1, 2022, Mr. Deapah also cautioned his colleagues against allowing them to be used to cause chaos during electioneering periods.
Mr. Samuel Deapah then thanked the Ministry of Transport and all stakeholders, including the LNP, for ensuring the merger of all motorcycle and tricycle unions into one umbrella organization.
