MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The OPEC Fund for International Development has approved a twenty-million Dollar loan to the Liberian Government, to help improve Liberian fisheries.
The funding also comes with a two-hundred-forty-thousand Dollar complementary technical assistance grant.
The money will help co-finance the Sustainable Management of Liberian Fisheries Project being implemented by the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), with support from the World Bank.
A recent NaFAA said the project will improve the management of fisheries, making it more efficient and sustainable.
It added that the project also targets improvement in the living conditions of beneficiary communities, creating better outcomes and new opportunities for over fifty-thousand people, including women, children and youth.
The Liberian Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project (LSMFP) will positively impact at least six densely populated coastal counties. They are Montserrado, Margibi, Maryland, Grand Bassa, Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties.
