by Francis Pelenah Jr,

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has recalled Liberian Ambassador to the United States, George Patten.

Ambassador Pattern was on Thursday, September 15, 2022, replaced with the nomination of Jeff Gongoer Dowana as Liberia’s new Ambassador to the US, with concurrent Non-Resident Accreditation to Canada and Mexico.

Ambassador Patten has been Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States since his appointment by President George Weah in 2018, when he replaced Cllr. Lois Brutus.

The Executive Mansion Statement did not give any reason for his recall to Monrovia.

However, during his commissioning on December 29, 2018, President Weah encouraged Ambassador Patten to represent Liberia’s best interest at his new assignment.

The Liberian leader, at the time, advised Ambassador Patten to be mindful of the special relationship subsisting between Liberia and the United States of America.

His successor, Ambassador Jeff Dowana, is also career Diplomat, who served at several postings including London, New York, Washington DC, Paris, and his current assignment as Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to Kuwait.
