SANNIQUELLIE CITY, NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA-The President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has highlighted what he calls significant improvement in the Liberian Media.
Mr. Coffey said:” The repeal of several provisions of the penal law affecting the growth of the media is a major milestone achievement in the sector.”
He named Criminal Libel against the President and Sedition as some anti-press freedom laws that have since been abolished by the Liberian Government.
Mr. Coffey was speaking over the weekend during celebrations marking the 58th Anniversary of the PUL in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
He, at the same time, lauded the Government for the demonstration of political will on removing those draconian laws.
He added that Liberians and foreign residents are freely expressing themselves, as a result of Press Freedom being tolerated by the government.
