by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Supreme Court of Liberia will on Thursday entertain legal arguments into the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) Chairman, Cllr. Edwin Martin’s petition raising questions about the LACC New Act.

Thursday’s hearing is through a notice of assignments to the petitioner and respondent lawyers as provided by Law.

Cllr. Martin’s petition has since questioned the legality of session 16.1 and 16.2 of the New LACC Act, saying it violates the principles and doctrine of expo facto law as enshrined in Article 21(a) of the 1986 Constitution.

The law states that no person shall be made subject to any law or punishment which h was not in effect at the time of commission of an offense.

As a result of this provision, Cllr. Martin is seeking an interpretation from the Supreme Court regarding the matter as provided for by law.
