“Movement for Dev. and Reconstruction Remains Active Part of Pres. Weah’s Coalition for Democratic Change”-Mr. Bangura

by Francis Pelenah Jr,

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A well placed authority within Senator Prince Johnson’s Movement for Development and Reconstruction (MDR) Party on Monday reaffirmed that his party remains an active part of President George Weah’s Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

Mr. Wilfred Bangura, MDR Vice Chairman for Political and Governmental Affairs, told a news conference in Monrovia on Monday, January 23, 2023, that the Party will stick with the ruling coalition, standing firm for President Weah’s re-election come October this year.

He noted that the MDR will field no presidential candidate and will be no running mate to any opposition political party, during the upcoming polls.

Mr. Bangura, a close ally to the MDR founding leader, Senator Prince Johnson, was clear that his statement has the full backing of Senator Johnson who recently relinquished the political leadership of the Party.

Mr. Bangura’s clarification comes in the wake of media speculation that Senator Johnson and his MDR Party has been holding consultation with a number of opposition parties, in anticipation of forming a new alliance.

He said Senator Johnson will eventually and openly re-declare his support for President Weah’s re-election bid.
