Notorious Land Dealer served three Criminal Indictments

by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A notorious land dealer in Johnsonville has been served three separate criminal indictments, ranging from armed robbery, aggravated assault and theft of property.

Suspect Boakai Massaquoi’s indictments were unsealed on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Monrovia Central Prison where is being detained for contempt charge.

His indictments were discovered on January 20, 2023, after he was arrested by officers of Civil Law Court “B” for contempt charge.

Suspect Boakai Massaquoi was detained on Friday, January 20, 2023, for obstructing the function of Court.

In another Judicial development, Montserrado County Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon, has filed a petition to the Supreme Court of Liberia, seeking to overturn Judge Kennedy Peabody’s April 13, 2022 decision in favor of Liberty Party National Chairman, Musa Bility.

Senator Dillon’s legal team has questioned Judge Peabody’s ruling through a petition before the Justice in Chambers at the Supreme Court, as provided by Chapter 16, Section 16.21 of the Civil Procedure Law of Liberia.

The Montserrado County Senator’s request to the Court claimed that he is immune from civil and criminal lawsuit  based on his expression, and believed that his petition will undo Judge Peabody’s action as provided by law.

Judge Peabody has since ruled that immunity, as contained in the 1986 Liberian Constitution, does not go beyond Legislative session, contrary to Senator Dillon’s claims.

In 2022, Liberty Party National Chairman, Musa Bility, instituted a one-million US Dollar lawsuit against the Montserrado County Senator, but the lawmaker is yet to obtain a guarantee bond of two-million dollars to cancel Mr. Bility Writ of Attachment.

Meanwhile, Associate Justice Yusuf Kaba has cited the parties to a legal conference on Thursday, January 26, 2023, before making any decision on the matter.
