MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A local NGO, Her Voice Liberia, on Tuesday launched a one-year project in Liberia.
The Project titled: Community Initiatives for Peaceful Elections in Liberia-CIPE 2023, is aimed at promoting peaceful electoral environment and community security.
Speaking at the launch Tuesday, January 24, 2023, Her Voice Executive Director, Margaret Nigba, said:” The project will be implemented in twenty-five communities in Rivergee, Grand Kru, Sinoe, Maryland and Grand Gedeh Counties.”
It will invest in strong holistic partnership with community policing section, the Liberia Peace Building Office, women, youth and community structures in mitigating widespread insecurity during and after the 2023 elections.
The project also seeks to invest in capacity building and support to community watch teams, security agencies and other stakeholders engagement and media reporting, monitoring, among others.
Meanwhile, Police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue, says the police will embark on series of engagements aimed at creating a safe space for citizens ahead of the 2023 elections.
Col. Sudue said:” Such engagements will begin with the youth, civil society organizations and the media.”
He said the engagements are meant to find possible ways of maintaining peace during and after the elections.
The Police Chief was speaking on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, when he served as Key Launcher of a project dubbed Community Initiatives for Peaceful Elections, CIPE-2023, undertaken by Her Voice Liberia.
The project funded is being by UNDP.
