Mainstreaming Gender in the Security Sector Conference Begins Today in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A two-day International Conference on Mainstreaming Gender in the Security Sector, in West Africa, is expected to get underway in Liberia this Thursday at the University of Liberia (UL).

A UL Release says the Conference is aimed at providing opportunities to deliberate, share experiences and recommend practical actions for advancing women’s participation in the peace process.

The Conference will also assess the progress made by Military and Para-military Agencies in ECOWAS States, in delivering on existing commitments using the Continental Results Framework.

The release added that the Commanding General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, will serve as Guest Speaker at the two-day event.

During the conference, UL President, Dr. Julius Nelson and the Vice Chancellor of the International Academy for Gender and Peace, Dr. Frederick Terhemba Tyoor, will launch a Master of Science Program in Gender and Peace Studies.
