MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has hailed the United States for its leadership role played in Liberia and the world at large.
President Weah said:” For this Liberia will remain a traditional friend and ally to the US.”
The Liberian Leader added that the Government and people of Liberia will continue to fight along with the US in defense of democracy across the world.
He reiterated Liberia’s support to the United Nations and international concerted efforts for the restoration of lasting peace in Ukraine.
President Weah made the remarks on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the occasion marking the 247th Independence Day celebrations of the United States held at the Executive Pavilion in Monrovia.
The Liberian Chief Executive maintained that the Liberian Government remains united in its common stance on human rights, good governance, and the rule of law.
President George Weah congratulated US Ambassador, Michael McCarthy and the Deputy Chief of Mission, Joel Maybury, for their service to the country, and wished them well as they come to the end of their tour of duty in Liberia.
At the same time, US Ambassador Michael McCarthy praised the Liberian Government for strengthening freedom of the press and expression through the National Legislature.
Ambassador McCarthy said:” Only societies, such as Liberia, with courage and maturity, will allow opposition figures to voice their dissent.”
He also highlighted Liberia’s pioneering role in promoting women’s leadership with the election of the country’s first female President, Vice President, and the appointment of the third female Chief Justice.
Ambassador Michael McCarthy also praised the administration of President George Weah for its unwavering stance against the unprovoked attack by Russia on Ukraine.
